We believe marriage should begin with intention

HalalZawaj was born from a simple belief — that Muslim communities deserve a matrimonial platform that truly understands their faith, their culture, and their values. Not a dating app dressed up in Islamic language. Something genuinely different.

How HalalZawaj began

HalalZawaj was founded after seeing the struggles faced by Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali Muslims in the diaspora. Young Muslims living in London, Minneapolis, Stockholm, and Dubai were caught between two worlds — modern digital life and deeply held Islamic values around marriage. Existing platforms either felt too casual, too Western, or simply did not understand the specific cultural needs of Horn of Africa communities. The wali role was ignored. Privacy was an afterthought. Family involvement was not supported. We decided to build something better. Something halal by design — from the ground up.

What makes us different

From the very first line of code, HalalZawaj was designed around Islamic principles. Every feature was asked a simple question — does this honour the Islamic way of finding a spouse? The wali CC feature was not added as an afterthought — it was one of the first features we built. Profile photos are private by default — because modesty is not a setting, it is a value. Connection requests require genuine intention — because this is a marriage platform, not a browsing app. We also built HalalZawaj to feel like home for Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali communities specifically. We understand Habesha culture. We understand Somali family traditions. We understand what it means to be a Muslim from the Horn of Africa living in the West or the Gulf — navigating faith, identity, and the search for a righteous spouse.

Alhamdulillah — the results speak for themselves

Since launching, HalalZawaj has facilitated over 4,200 marriages across our three core communities. Members in London have found spouses in Nairobi. Families in Minnesota have connected with families in Gothenburg. An Eritrean sister in Dubai found her husband through a profile she almost skipped. Every single marriage is a reminder of why we built this. Every message from a new couple saying Alhamdulillah fills our team with gratitude and renewed purpose. We are not just a platform. We are a community. And inshAllah, we are just getting started.

Halal by design

Every feature, every policy, and every decision at HalalZawaj is guided by Islamic principles. We do not compromise on this — not for growth, not for convenience, not for anything.

Our mission

Everything we do is guided by three commitments

Community first

HalalZawaj exists for Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali Muslim communities. We understand your culture, your languages, and your values. This platform was built for you — not adapted for you.

Family involvement

Marriage in Islam is a family decision. We built HalalZawaj to involve families — not exclude them. The wali feature, the family-friendly moderation, the respectful communication system — all of it reflects this belief.
